Review:
"Syndromes should be readily available in all operating rooms and departments of anesthesia...I give Syndromes my highest rating."

"This book is a fantastic quick reference to possible anesthetic implications for a specific syndrome and the implication need not be limited to practices that care solely for children...This book is an incredibly ambitious undertaking by the authors who are to be commended on creating a very helpful new resource."

David B. Glick, MD, MBA(University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine). .

**Description**. This is a nearly exhaustive compilation of over 4,500 pediatric syndromes and their impact on perioperative management.. .

**Purpose**. The purpose of the book is to provide a quick reference for surgeons and anesthesiologists providing care to children with syndromic diseases so that safe and timely operations can be performed. The need for a book of this kind is clear to any trainee or clinician who has ever found himself/herself asking "what else do kids with this syndrome have?" The tremendous number of clinical syndromes makes this a challenging undertaking, nevertheless, the authors have succeeded in producing a comprehensive and easily accessible reference that anesthesiologists from trainees to senior faculty will find helpful.. .

**Audience**. Any surgeon or anesthesiologist who provides care to pediatric patients will find this a useful resource. The authors are gathered from many of the leading pediatric hospitals in Canada and Europe, and their experience and insights are presented for each of the listed syndromes.. .

**Features**. The most impressive part of this book is its comprehensive character.. Furthermore, the cross-references to similar syndromes and index of synonyms for the listed syndromes leave few gaps uncovered for the practitioner who requires quick information about a patient's disease. Because of the tremendous number of syndromes and the relative rarity of some of the listed problems, there is a relative paucity of photographic images. The ones that were included were very clear.. .

**Assessment**. I have not come across a book that covers thissubject as completely and makes referencing as easy as this one does. It is truly an essential text for those providing operative care to children who have syndromic diseases.. .

Weighted Numerical Score: 95 - 4 Stars!. .
