Since no apparatus is included in the text, students discover meanings on their own. And, instructors who want the added support of apparatus can find it either in the Instructor's Manual or can turn to 75 READINGS PLUS, Fourth Edition (McGraw-Hill, 1998) which integrates excellent apparatus.
The Instructor's Manual offers the following: tools which include a biography of the author; a vocabulary section; questions for discussion, strategy, and style; suggestions for shorting writing; and suggestions for sustained writing.
An alternative thematic table of contents is provided.
Ten new essays provides a variety of fresh voices and perspectives that include "Traveling South" by James Weldon Johnson, "Don't Get Comfortable" by Naton Leslie, and "Fecundity" by Annie Dillard.
The chapter on argumentation has been thoroughly revised and expanded to include essays relating to persuasion, including essays such as "Who Shot Johnny?" by Debra Dickerson, "Bilingual Education" Outdated and Unrealistic" by Richard Rodriquez, "Foods Pets Die for" by Ann N. Martin, and "The Next Time You Are Sick, You'd Better Go to the Vet..." from the NATURE OF WELLNESS.
