Synopsis

This independent workbook/text supplement is intended for students who may need additional assistance in problem solving while enrolled in an introductory chemistry, allied health chemistry, or general chemistry course in the freshman or sophomore year. Designed for self-study, "Chemical Skills" can also be used in a lecture course intended to make up the quantitative skills deficiency of students about to take general chemistry. The text identifies prerequisites and learning objectives for each chapter and contains worked-out sample problems in programmed format. End-of-chapter problems many with answers, provide an opportunity for practising maths skills. Chapter tests provide additional feedback. Changes to this edition include: maths review and calculator materials have been integrated into the text; a division of the text into major parts allowing easier identification of major topic areas for review; net ionic equations and redox reactions now follow solutions; thermochemistry now follows gases; basics of atomic structure have been added to chapter 7 and more advanced topics are covered in chapter 11; additional problems section has been added to each chapter to provide more challenging problems. The instructor's manual contains solutions to problems not answered in the text, plus five new worksheets per chapter that may be used as additional tests.
