Review:
Pabla has prepared a highly technical volume with an up-to-date and comprehensive series of topics for graduate students or professionals and practitioners of power distribution engineering. The breadth of subject matter is impressive -- from system planning, load forecasting, and customer service issues, to nuts and bolts of distribution system component design, operation, and failure modes. Rarely has this much subject matter, presented in practical, applicable methodology, been made available in a single volume. The author provides in-depth coverage of the latest distribution automation technologies and addresses new demand-side (i.e., market-driven) issues such as reliability and power quality. Many operations policy and procedure topics are based on the author's native Indian distribution systems and their regulation. Still, the predominance of general technical problem discussions and engineering solutions make the text appropriate to a global user audience. Summing Up: Highly recommended.
