A vibrantly eloquent and full-color celebration of salmon and the sport of fly-fishing from a dedicated naturalist and passionate fisherman. From Library Journal:
This book is both a celebration and a warning: a passionate paean to the wild Pacific salmon and a lavishly illustrated plea for protection of salmon at sea and their fresh-water spawning streams. Taylor is a psychiatrist who has fly-fished much of the West Coast. He mingles his personal experiences with descriptions of the fish and the rivers from California to Alaska, describing the salmon's life characteristics, the effects of dams and logging on its stream habitat, its place in Native American culture, and its physiological changes during spawning. While the many color illustrations give the book visual appeal, it lacks the depth and context of works such as Trey Combs's Steelhead Fly Fishing (LJ 1/92). Still, it should appeal to public libraries in the Pacific Northwest.
