When I started to write "The Key" I wanted to write a book with a chastity belt in it. Of course, then I had to come up with a reason why a woman would be wearing one. Nasty husbands and controlling fathers didn't sound like much fun. Besides, I'm not the cruel sort who would leave a girl in a chastity belt for days, weeks, or months on end with no chance to take it off every once in a while to relieve herself, or just let her poor skin breathe. So, she had to have control of the key to the belt and be wearing it by choice.

Which brings me back to the question of why?

I didn't have long to wonder before Duncan came sauntering into my mind. Tall, strong, handsome, and ambitious, he is every girl's dream...So long as you don't need to breathe...Through your nose. Are you getting the picture yet? As the saying goes, "nobody's perfect" and our Duncan's imperfection is in the hygiene area. He's lived the "grand bachelor's life" with his father since his early childhood when his mother died. Cleaning is an alien concept, and bathing is a chore to be suffered twice a year "every January and July". Well, Iliana just isn't the type of girl to put up with that kind of behavior. Especially not in the marriage bed. So, she dons the belt, and boots "hubby" out of bed. Not the best way to start a marriage. But it only gets worse - or better, depending on how you look at it - from there. I rather pictured Duncan as a healthy, randy, bull of a man, chasing our more refined Iliana around the castle, trying everything to get into her belt. Everything but a bath that is.
