9780061800221: The Frogs and Toads All Sang

From Caldecott Medalist Arnold Lobel (1933-1987) comes a brand-new collection of rhyming stories about frogs and toads. Discovered by his daughter, Adrianne Lobel, The Frogs and Toads All Sang has the same warmth, compassion, and humor that is found in his best-loved work. Brimming with sweet silliness, this new book reminds us why Arnold Lobel's characters continue to be so popular years after debut.

Arnold Lobel (1933-1987) was the award-winning author and illustrator of many beloved children's books, including the classic I Can Read books about Frog and Toad, and the Caldecott Medal winning Fables.

Adrianne Lobel grew up to be a noted set designer who also produced the Broadway musical A Year with Frog and Toad. Adrianne's discovery of several of her father's handmade books illustrated in pen and ink for family and friends led to this new picture book. An artist herself, Adrianne added color to prints of her father's line art using watercolors and dyes. Adrianne lives with her daughter in New York City.

From School Library Journal:

Starred Review. PreSchool-Grade 2—Mischievous, warmhearted, silly, and touching, this short collection of stories in rhyme trips easily off the tongue in true Arnold Lobel style. In playful fashion, they feature Miss Frog baking pies and sugar buns, two lazy toads contemplating the night, a bright green frog playing the violin, a school for squirming polliwogs, and an adventurous jumper—often with a surprise-ending twist. A poem about a frog party, for example, concludes with: "They danced in the meadow/They danced in the street/They danced in the lemonade/Just to cool their feet." Adrianne Lobel, a set designer by profession, catches just the right mood in applying frothy, airy colors to her father's line art. A short introduction reveals how the collection came to be some 20 years after Lobel's death. This delectable combination of word and image is a treat not to be missed.—Barbara Elleman, Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art, Amherst, MA END
