Dramatizes the life of King Solomon, his love for Shulamit, and the schemes of his older brother, Adonijah, to gain the throne for himself

Based upon Solomon's Song of Songs, this tells the story of David's favorite son Solomon and his love, Shulamit, along with the semi-tragic misunderstandings and political machinations that kept them apart. That part's fictional - we don't know anything about her other than her name, family and where she came from - but there's plenty of historical detail as well as information from the Bible, from direct quotes from the Song to explanations of how the many names of God amplify our understanding and experience of Him, and some good wisdom imparted from Shulamit's mother, Ramat. Rated 4 out of 5 stars.
"Reviewed by Hilary Carter, Net Galley, November 4, 2013"
Fifth book of the author s Old Testament Biblical series, this three hundred and two page historical fiction targets readers who love romance, the Songs of Solomon, and sibling rivalry. With the slang version of an illegitimate child used and stories of war, adultery, and immorality, it would best be read by mature adults.
With Biblical scholars noting the Abishag of First Kings could be the lover mentioned in Songs of Solomon, Kerr writes a believable love story that comes to life between royalty and common folk.

ROBERTA KELLS DORR is the author of seven books: six novels, one biography. She majored in creative writing at the University of Maryland and received her masters in Religious Education from the Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. For seventeen years Dorr lived in the Middle East as the wife of a busy missionary surgeon and the mother of five children. On her return to the United States she carried with her the manuscript of the first novel she had written and researched extensively over the years. She claimed that the years in the Middle East, the exposure to their culture, and the experiences she had while there profoundly influenced what she wrote.
