Book Description London: George Allen & Unwin, 1970., 1970. Hardcover. Book Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. First Edition of Garrison-Morton 2068.15: 'Disposes of many myths deeply embedded in the literature . and is the best available account.' 236 pp; 3 figs.; 8 plates; ads. Original cloth. Near Fine, in near fine dust jacket (price-clipped). A 1999 article by F. W. E. Diggins, 'The true history of the discovery of penicillin, with refutation of the misinformation in the literature' (British Journal of Biomedical Science), refutes some of the claims about Fleming and his work that Hare made in the book, as well as some of those made by the other chief authority to write recently on Fleming, Gwyn MacFarlane (see 1984, etc.). These remarks were the first against Hare's account that I have read. I also have not seen Hare's 1982 paper, 'New light on the history of penicillin' (Med Hist 27: 1-24), which perhaps amends/amplifies some of what he wrote 12 years earlier. [DF1].
