There is now considerable interest in in-service education related specifically to the professional needs of teachers serving as members of staff of individual schools. Depending on the tasks and responsibilities of the teacher hoping to introduce school-focused in-service work, the programme may be designed for a whole staff, for a faculty or department, or for a small group of teachers with a special interest or enthusiasm. The book is intended for use by serving teachers as a working document rather than an academic treatise. It provides background information on in-service education generally, as well as practical guidance on how school- focused in-service education can be initiated to support and reinforce intended educational or organisational change in a school. Specifically, it deals with planning, implementing and evaluating the programme. Finally it discusses resources available for the work, giving details, in a directory, of external support on which teachers may wish to draw. The author has had wide and varied experience as a teacher in primary and secondary schools and has been both head of department and deputy headteacher.
