Dr H.Saddhatissa was ordained as a Buddhist monk in 1926 and holds the title of Mahathera. He is proficient in Pali, Sanskrit, Sinhalese and Hindi and was formerly Professor of Buddhism and Pali at Benares and Toronto. This description of the life of Gautama, the Buddha, is based directly on his teachings written down after his death some 19 centuries ago. In this account the author has tried to present the day-to-day incidents of the Buddha's life, together with the allegories and parables in which he enveloped much of his teaching, as well as giving an insight into his character. Dr H.Saddhatissa is also author of "Buddhist Ethics" and "The Buddha's Way".
