The Madonna Companion is the first collection on the "Material Girl" to tell the story, from her work as a musician and performer to her celebrity life as icon and agent provocateur. A wide range of original articles, interviews, reviews, and research follows Madonna from her emergence in 1984-85 as a teen-pop dance queen through her controversial videos of the late '80s, to today's more thoughtful composer and performer.
This indispensable volume assembles live concert and album reviews, and lengthy interviews from all stages of Madonna's career. Other selections discuss her work as a video artist, the social impact of Madonna's life style on a generation of fans, and her emergence as a powerful and savvy business woman. The volume is rounded out by a sampling of academic critiques of Madonna. Belongs on the shelf of everyone from the casual to the true-blue fan!
