Grade 4-7 A look at hibernation and how it affects various species of the animal kingdom. Unfortunately, what could have been an excellent presentation for either lower or middle elementary has become a neither/nor title. The formatminiscule illustrations and whole pages of closely printed textis too sophisticated for lower elementary grades; it is too basic for middle grades with its four- to eight-word sentences, two syllable words and one- to three-line paragraphs. Chapters tend to ramble from animal to insect to birds. The text overpowers what could have been adequate pen-and-ink drawings, but their postage-stamp size is too small to be effective. Potentially good information that is too much for primary grades and too little for middle elementary pupils. Charlene J. Lenzen, Hales Corners Lutheran School, Wis.
