Thomas Hardy devoted the final thirty years of his life entirely to his first love - poetry. He abandoned fiction at the age of fifty-eight, after a successful career as a novelist during which he produced such masterpieces as Tess of the D'Urbervilles, Jude the Obscure, and Far from the Madding Crowd. His first volume of poetry, the 1898 Wessex Poems, was followed by Poems of the Past and the Present, Time's Laughingstocks, Satires of Circumstance, and Moments of Vision. At the time of his death in 1928, he was one of Britain's most distinguished poets. This edition of The Complete Poems makes available in one paperback volume all the poetic works of the great nineteenth-century English novelist. Included are previously uncollected poems, among which are examples of Hardy's finest work - "Domicilium" and the songs from The Dynasts.
