9780007501311: Indiscretion

Harry and Madeleine Winslow have been blessed with talent, money, and charm. Warm and affluent, they play host to a coterie of close friends and acolytes eager to bask in their golden radiance. One weekend at the start of the summer season, Harry and Maddy meet Claire and cannot help but be enchanted by her. Drawn by the Winslows' magnetism, Claire eagerly falls into their welcoming orbit. But, over the course of the summer, her reverence transforms into a dangerous desire. By Labor Day, it is no longer enough to remain one of their hangers-on.

A story of love, lust, deception, and betrayal told through the omniscient eyes of Maddy's childhood friend Walter, a narrator akin to Nick Carraway in The Great Gatsby, Indiscretion is an irresistibly sensual page-turner that explores having it all, and the consequences of wanting more.

Indiscretion also marks the debut of a remarkably gifted writer and storyteller, whose unique voice bears all the hallmarks of an exciting new literary talent.

From Booklist:

Harry and Madeleine Winslow seem to have it all. Harry has recently won the National Book Award, and Madeleine, who comes from money, does everything, from playing tennis to cooking dinner, with sophisticated ease. Then, during one of their weekends at their Hamptons house, they meet beautiful 26-year-old Claire, an unabashed admirer of their lifestyle, who soon comes to be a fixture at their summer parties. When the Winslows decamp to Rome, where Harry struggles to complete his new novel, Claire is bereft. Then Harry returns to the States for a meeting with his publisher, and his chance encounter with Claire leads them to embark upon a passionate affair. All of the drama unleashed by their betrayal of Maddy is conveyed by Walter, a childhood friend of Maddy’s who has long been in love with her. In his first novel, Dubow proves himself to be an elegant writer with a shrewd sense of how to shape his material for the broadest appeal. Glamorous settings, old money, and steamy sex all combine to make this one a totally addictive read. --Joanne Wilkinson

This book usually ship within 10-15 business days and we will endeavor to dispatch orders quicker than this where possible. Brand New Book. The Great Gatsby meets The Secret History in this torrid novel of love, lust and deception. Harry and Madeleine Winslow are blessed with talent, money, and charm. Harry is an award-winning author on the cusp of greatness. Madeleine is a woman of sublime beauty and grace whose elemental goodness belies a privileged upbringing. Bonded by deep devotion, their marriage is both envied and admired by friends who spend summers at their East Hampton idyll. When a holiday fling turns disastrously wrong, 26-year-old Claire falls into the Winslows welcoming orbit. They are enchanted by her youth and intelligence. In turn, Claire is entranced by Harry and Maddy. The love that exists between them is something of which, until now, she could only dream. Seen through the omniscient eyes of Maddy s childhood friend Walter, a narrator akin to Nick Carraway in The Great Gatsby, Indiscretion is a story about the complexities of love, the dangerous nature of desire and how obsession can tear apart even the most perfect of worlds.
