Evil Under the Sun

9780007249510: Evil Under the Sun

The beautiful bronzed body of Arlena Stuart lay facedown on the beach. But strangely, there was no sun and Arlena was not sunbathing ... she had been strangled.Ever since Arlena's arrival the air had been thick with sexual tension. Each of the guests had a motive to kill her, including Arlena's new husband. But Hercule Poirot suspects that this apparent "crime of passion" conceals something much more evil.

About the Author:

Dame Agatha Christie (1890-1976) was a British crime writer best known for her detective novels and short stories. According to Guinness World Records, she is the best-selling novelist of all time, her novels having sold over four billion copies and having been translated into more than one hundred languages. The Agatha Award for best mystery and crime writers was named in her honor.

David Suchet may be most familiar to listeners from his role as Inspector Poirot, originally on PBS TV's Mystery! and now on A&E. He has also appeared on Broadway in Amadeus, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (for which he won Best Actor, Critic's Circle Award), Oleanna (Best Actor, Royal Variety Club), and Timon of Athens (Best Actor, Evening Standard Award). He has numerous film and television credits to his name.

From AudioFile:

Did the actress found strangled on the beach deserve to die? Some of the guests at the resort where Hercule Poirot is relaxing say she did, but the Belgian detective thinks otherwise. He takes on the labor of finding her killer-and proving the value of her life. The moral judgments of the guests at Smugglers' Cove give this mystery a dimension beyond the whodunit, making for one of Agatha Christie's best novels. David Timson captures the mood of gossip in the face of tragedy excellently. The abridgment is well done despite the tight three-hour cap, giving the clues fair play without giving them away. Justice-and Christie fans-are well served. J.A.S. © AudioFile 2004, Portland, Maine-- Copyright © AudioFile, Portland, Maine
