Mr Shaitana was famous as a flamboyant party host. Nevertheless he was a man of whom everybody was a little afraid. So, when he boasted to Poirot that he considered murder an art form, the detective had some reservations about excepting a party invitation to view Shaitana's private collection.

About the Author:

Agatha Christie was born in Torquay in 1890 and became, quite simply, the best-selling novelist in history. Her first novel, The Mysterious Affair atStyles, written towards the end of the First World War, introduced us to Hercule Poirot, who was to become the most popular detective in crime fiction since Sherlock Holmes. She is known throughout the world as the Queen of Crime. Her books have sold over a billion copies in the English language and another billion in over 100 foreign languages. She is the author of 80 crime novelsand short story collections, 19 plays, and six novels under the name of MaryWestmacott.

From AudioFile:

Mr. Shaitana invites Hercule Poirot and six other guests to a dinner and bridge party and then dies during the evening--stabbed through the heart without anyone noticing the actual murder. Poirot launches an investigation, which uncovers secrets the other guests would prefer to keep hidden. Hugh Fraser hides none of his talents in his delightful performance. His pacing is perfect for every scene, whether a bridge game or the race to stop a second murder. And his characterizations are better than they've ever been--Poirot is oh-so-Belgian and mannered, the police are tellingly middle class, and the killer, when revealed, has been blindingly self-confident, had we known to listen for it.
