Best-selling author and "modern Taoist sage", the Barefoot Doctor, helps us liberate ourselves from negativities that prevent us fully living the unlimited life we want and can have if willing to take the chance.
In Liberation, the Barefoot Doctor helps us overcome path-blocking negativities such as fear, greed and frustration, which prevent us from living our lives to the full, using a series of self-help techniques culled from Taoism, Buddhism, Shamanism and humanism.
Tried and proven in over 20 years’ clinical practice by the author, the methods range from acupressure and other physical self-healing methods and movements, to magic, including affirmation, visualization, energy manipulation and astral projection.
Organized in sections, such as ‘Liberation from guilt’ or ‘Liberation from feeling like you’re always in a rush’, he offers a rationalization of the blocking factor according to a Taoist/Buddhist/shamanist/humanist outlook, also likening the blocking factor to its corresponding vital organ and recommending self-treatment.
The Barefoot Doctor’s profile continues to grow, with his Observer column increasing in popularity and his Chi/Qui perfume and "Lotions and Potions" successfully launched in Selfridges and 250 Boots flagship stores.

The Barefoot Doctor writes well in a punchy, funny and easy style. In 54 short chapters he tells us how to be liberated from all that troubles us from cynicism to cosmic suffering. Happily, even though he clearly believes in his wacky cures, the Barefoot Doctor doesn't take himself too seriously. His approach is to mix a dollop of common sense advice with a big portion of Eastern theories about the soul-body relationship. Deep breathing, positive thinking and a sensible approach to diet and exercise are combined with advice on how to "warm your liver", to defeat depression and how to motivate your spleen to conquer anger problems. There's some acu-pressure stuff thrown in as well as some moderate massage and reflexology. This is a fun book with a lightweight inspirational self-help message. As the author himself says, take it all with a pinch of salt and it might do you some good. --Dwight Longenecker
