With the catchy title Drop a Dress Size in Two Weeks Flat, you might expect to find a nutritionally unsound fad diet--and to some extent this is true. The first part of the book aims to get you into that small bikini or wedding dress within two weeks by following a strict regimented diet. However, the book goes beyond the 14-day plan and attempts to instil good habits that will help maintain a healthy lifestyle.
The crux of Joanna Hall's approach is the "Starch Curfew"--cutting out carbohydrates after 5 pm, and eating low-Glycemic Index carbs (which release energy more slowly) during the day. Walking is also a major component of the diet, with four "activity zones" planned for each day. The structured diet should not leave you starving and tasty recipes are included to compliment the plan.
Sensibly, the quick-fix approach to weight loss only takes up one third of the book. The remaining chapters are devoted to keeping the fat off and maintaining good habits so you don't have to crash diet to fit into that outfit again. Nutritional information such as how much fibre you need, and which fats to approach with caution is helpful.
Targeted at the quick-fix weight-loss market this book is, at first, unappealing to those seeking a long-term solution to healthier living.
