The complete story of Gary Teichmann’s rugby career. Teichmann has led the Springbok rugby team onto the field far more times than any man in history and as the record stands has led the Springboks to the most successive Test wins.

For the Record, the story of the tall eighthman who has earned much respect and admiration throughout the rugby world recounts some of the most memorable victories in the history of Rugby.

Teichmann writes of the 17 successive Test victories achieved by his Springboks in 1997 and 1998, equalling the All Blacks feat of the 1960s. He openly reveals his thoughts of the difficult circumstances surrounding his controversial omission from the Springbok squad for the Rugby World Cup in 1999. Teichmann also writes candidly of his position of leadership for South Africa’s team during the 1990s, the Natal Sharks, and of the people and pride at King’s Park.

Through the disasters of defeat against the Lions and the triumph of the 1998 Tri-Nations Teichmann held on to his personal dignity, proving that Teichmann’s strong leadership skills are what have always helped him to keep his head above the storm.

In 1996 Gary Teichmann made the huge decision to move overseas and signed to play club rugby with Newport, Wales. Midway through the season Teichmann had already been asked to take over the captaincy of the team. It appears that the imported star has brought his former success with him to Newport and refers to his 15-year association with Natal rugby as ‘an unforgettable experience’.

Through triumph and disappointment Gary Teichmann never lost sight of his goals and proved that the only lasting path to glory is the path to honesty.

From the Back Cover:

No man has led the Springbok rugby team onto the field as many times as Gary Teichmann, and no man has inspired the Springboks to more successive Test victories. The records stand.

Now Teichmann, the tall eighthman whose dignity and decency have earned respect and admiration across the rugby world, writes for the record.

Here he records the 17 successive Test victories achieved by his Springboks in 1997 and 1998, equalling the All Blacks feat of the 1960’s.

For the record he outlines the circumstances of his controversial omission from the Springbok squad for the 1999 Rugby World Cup.

He writes of his tenure at the helm of South Africa’s team of the 1990’s, the Natal Sharks; of the people and pride at King’s park.

At all times, in triumph and disappointment, Teichmann has kept his head above the storm, maintaining his personal dignity through the disasters of defeat against the Lions and the triumph of the 1998 Tri-Nations.

His tale is honest and revealing: the story of a leader, the story of a man who never lost sight of his goals, and never forgot that the only lasting path to glory is the path of honesty. A man without fear, writing for the record.
