Based on Sue Lawrence's column for 'The Sunday Times' and with the addition of 100 new recipes, 'The Sunday Times Cookbook' encapsulates Sue's attitude to food and cooking. Her recipes are unfussy, easy to follow and enjoyable – a pleasure to read and to create.
A former Masterchef winner and 'The Sunday Times' Amateur Chef of the Year award, Sue has an instinctive knowledge of what the amateur cook wants and needs to know. Her recipes are perfect for all cooks – filled with a love of food, an amazing grasp of the history and use of ingredients, and combined with simple and straightforward instructions.
'The Sunday Times Cookbook' is a clever mix of cooking for all circumstances and acknowledges that we vary our cooking styles depending on the occasion. So in addition to sections on 'Soups' and 'Starters', there is a separate section for 'Salads' where, for example, the classic Caesar salad shares the chapter with more innovative recipes such as Roasted pumpkin and coriander salad. 'After work suppers' include helpful, quick and easy recipes such as Mussels with chilli and coriander and Beef with black bean sauce, while 'Cooking for Friends' acknowledges that you may want to cook something a little more special – for example, Chicken with preserved lemons and black olives or Lamb and tomato crepe stack – but not go the trouble you would for 'Delicious Dinners'. With eleven chapters, this is an inventive and easy-to-use cookbook that you can reach for at any time of the day and on any occasion.
The book is illustrated throughout with beautiful, mouth-watering photographs taken by Jean Cazals, and features menus complemented by Joanna Simon's wine notes.
Sue's reason for writing this book is to share many favourite recipes so that you too might enjoy that deep feeling of satisfaction that only delicious food can bring. The fundamental theme that runs through all the recipes is summed up by what Sue calls 'the yum factor'. If the dish tastes yummy and the post-prandial feeling is one of blissful contentment, then you can feel you have succeeded as a cook
