From the Back Cover:

Popular painter and television presenter, Alwyn Crawshaw, takes us round Constable country in East Anglia, sketching and painting the landscape that Constable immortalized.

John Constable is Britain's most popular and well known painter. His landscapes embody the very essence of the English countryside and paintings such as the ' Haywain, Flatford Mill' and ' The Cornfield' have become national institutions. In this book, ' Crawshaw Paints Constable Country, ' and the accompanying Anglia/Channel 4 television series, Alwyn Crawshaw takes us round constable country in East Anglia, painting many of the scenes that Constable painted himself.

The book gives readers a fascinating insight into Constable's life, times and works. Famous paintings and less familiar drawings are featured, but what makes this book so special is that Alwyn Crawshaw, with his endearing enthusiasm, shares his life-long love of Constable's paintings with us.

Alwyn introduces us to the lovely, unspoilt villages in Constable country, many of which have changed remarkably little since Constable's day, and paints and sketches many of the well-known scenes using watercolour, oils and pencils. Each programme and chapter has a different theme, allowing Alwyn to focus on specific aspects of Constable's life and work:
• Sketching and Drawing
• Churches
• Mills and water
• Trees, meadows and skies
• Landscapes

The combination of Alwyn Crawshaw's popularity as an artist and television presenter, the natural beauty of Constable country, and the familiarity of some of the nations favourite paintings will ensure that this unique book appeals not only to practicing artists but also to all those who find pleasure in fine art.
