Since the first edition of Alwyn Crawshaw's autobiography was published in 1984, he has become a household name and an inspiration to millions of amateur painters. With his enthusiastic personality and his gift for making art accessible, Alwyn has encouraged many people to take up painting.
In 1992 he set up The Society of Amateur Artists, which now has more than 15, 000 members worldwide. Alwyn's numerous best-selling books on painting techniques and his six successful Channel 4 television series have made him one of the most well-known and popular figures in the art world.
'The Artist at Work' tells the story of Alwyn's success. Lavishly illustrated throughout with many of his sketches and paintings, it describes how he progressed from his early art school days to the present, and includes some of the paintings that have gained widespread popularity as fine-art prints. Alwyn Crawshaw has written over 25 books on art instruction, all published by HarperCollins. Amongst other acheivements, Alwyn founded the Society of Amateur Artists, is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a past president of the National Acrylic Painters’ Association.
