A completely new edition of the former First Steps in Letterland, this new volume guides teachers through introducing Letterland in Reception and Year One.

The Programme One Teacher’s Guide is specially written for teachers introducing Letterland to their children for the first time, as well as those who have already met Letterland in the Early Years.

It provides guidance on introducing all the Letterland characters or a-z. It also introduces the Vowel Men (long vowels), and covers consonant blends, common endings and some important consonant digraphs. There is also a detailed section on the silent Magic e.

Photocopiable pages are included at the back of the guide, including teacher and pupil record sheets, flashcards and the lyrics to the songs.

Synopsis:
Blending a structured phonics approach to reading and writing with whole-language teaching, this series is consistent with the National Curriculum and the Scottish 5-14 Guidelines. Children learn about the alphabet through characters such as Annie Apple, Bouncy Ben and Clever Cat. The wide range of materials includes teacher's guides, flashcards, friezes, posters, songbooks, cassettes, copymasters, workbooks, storybooks, videos, games and computer software. The series is divided into "Early Years" materials for three- and four-year-olds, "Programme 1" for four- and five-year-olds, "Programme 2" for children aged five years and above, and support materials. This "Programme 1" teacher's guide includes role-play suggestions and teacher/pupil dialogues.
About the Author:

Lyn Wendon is a reading specialist who devised Letterland as a remedy for reading failure. Working among children with learning difficulties, she found that they needed a style of teaching that not only explained letter behaviour but also fired their imaginations. The result was Letterland!
