MORIHIRO OKI was born in Kyoto in 1929. He graduated from Kinki University Business School and, inspired as a student by Eugene Smith's work, became a freelance photographer.
He has photographed the war-displaced Japanese returning home, emigrating to Brazil, and scenes from a devastated Japan in the immediate post-war days. In 23 years, he has visited India over 80 times to cover Indian culture as a whole; and he introduced Mother Teresa to Japan.
He is a member of the Japan Professional Photographers Society, and his main works include: 'Mother Teresa: Full of Love' (Kodansha), 'Mother Teresa and her Sisters' (photo collection, Daughters of St. Paul), 'INDIA: Fairs and Festivals', (photo collection, Gakken), and 'Ancient Buddhist Sites of Sanchi and Barhut', (Yuzankaku).
Morihiro Oki has photographed Japanese refugees, boat people and a war-devastated Japan as well as visiting India regularly to photograph life, culture and religion. He is a member of the Japan Photographers Association and was responsible for introducing Mother Teresa to Japan.
