A collection of authentic love letters written over a period of one year, from 1898 to 1899. The love affair of Jack Hughes and Beatrice Mercer, from the early stages of their courtship to the preparations for their large Victorian wedding, is chronicled in their intimate letters to one another. Jack's letters were kept carefully by Beatrice in a silk-lined leather travelling bag; Jack kept Beatrice's letters in an old shoe box. This is how they were preserved and how they were found, by their granddaughter, eighty years later. This is an irresistible love story and their letter, illustrated with contemporary photographs and ephemera, capture for us the flavour and charm of the Victorian age.
