Carvill, New York, 1830. 3 3/4" x 5 7/8", 434 pgs + 18pgs index, 11 lithographs: Hadley Falls (MA), Saratoga Springs (one of village, one of Pavillion and one of United States Hotel), Burgoyne's Surrender in Schuyler-ville, Lake George, Bagg's Hotel-Utica, Trenton Falls, Niagara (all in NY), Quebec, and State House Boston. Most were by Pendleton. HOWES 143. This book was to introduce Southerners to places to travel during the hot summer months. Later editions dropped "Fashionable Tour" from the title. Beautifully rebound some time ago in 3/4 leather, gilt lettering on spine, 4 raised bands, tan paper w/ matching end papers. Near Fine. Light foxing, paper repair on title page and first pg. of Index. Also 1 1/4" x 1/2" section missing (margin only) on right edge of first pg. of Index. Pencil writing in first blank page of page numbers on list of lithographs. Gold top edge on pages and ribbon book mark sewn in. Very tight binding. Tables of distances: by land and water.
