About this Item
The Works of Charles Lamb, in Two Volumes, C. & J. Ollier, London, 1818, 6.75 x 4.25 , dark blue leather boards, 18mo. In good condition. Very nice! Boards are beautifully preserved with typical scuffing, light edge war. Corners are slightly rounded with minor loss. Joints exhibit light red rot. Gilt work on spine is faded, but intact. Paul Jennings Nowland ex-Libris plaque on front paste downs. End papers are more toned with moderate foxing. Text blocks are evenly toned minor foxing. Free of marginalia. Bindings are intact and secure. Books are covered in protective plastic dust jackets to prevent damage. Please see photos. Very rare first edition of Charles Lamb s collected works. A rather premature collection, since he was to live until 1834 and had not yet published the Essays of Elia. The collection is dedicated to Coleridge, with an affection preface recalling that Lamb and Lloyd had first appeared in print under cover of the greater Ajax. Its publication brought Lamb wide recognition. Included are some works, such as John Woodvil and Rosamund Gray , which had been long out of print, as well as several by Mary Lamb. *****COLL1818LMNK-FORN-0675 04/24 HKREVISION.
