SUBJECTS/CONTENT: Oldin (The Century) is an Icelandic language periodical designed to "to educate and inform", edited by Icelandic man of letters and adventurer, Jón Ólafsson, and later by Eggert Johannsson (the son of pioneers in New Iceland). One of the most important Icelandic periodicals published in Canada. Many of Stephan G. Stephensen's poems appeared here for the first time. It includes original poetry by leading Icelandic North American poets Stephan G. Stephansson, Undina, Kristinn Stefansson, Sigurdur Joh. Johannesson, and Sigurbjorn Johannsson; as well as original articles and essays by Icelandic and non-Icelandic writers; and Icelandic folklore not recorded elsewhere. The very top Icelandic-Canadian and American writers contributed to this periodical - e.g., Stephan G. Stephansson has 10 poems in the June, 1985 issue (Vol. III, No. 6) and in the March/April issue of 1896 (Vol. !V, No. 3-4) he has 12 poems - when his poems appear in the pages of this journal, they are usually the lead items in that particular issue. Subjects : Journal/Tímarit; Vestur Íslendingar. Rare, early and important Icelandic-Canadin/American literary journal. Bookseller Inventory # 35354
