PRIZE
10. One grand prize winner will receive a professional appraisal - over the course of a single day - of his or her book collection from a bookseller that sells through the AbeBooks platform. The appraisal consists of a one-day appraisal from the bookseller. Following the appraisal, the bookseller will provide the winner with written documentation of the appraised value. AbeBooks will pay the bookseller’s fees, travel expenses and any other costs arising from the appraisal. The bookseller will provide services from 9am to 1pm and from 1.30pm to 5pm on the day of the appraisal. If the bookseller is able to appraise the collection within a shorter time-frame then they free to leave. AbeBooks will select the bookseller that performs the appraisal. The appraisal must occur on a week-day (non-Bank Holiday) date that is mutually acceptable to the winner and the bookseller. The winner will be asked to provide at least three suitable dates over a three-month period - beginning from their notification of the win - to AbeBooks in order to facilitate the bookseller’s visit. The winner, or a representative of the winner, will need to be present for at least the start of the appraisal to introduce the appraiser to the collection and highlight books of particular interest. The bookseller may terminate the appraisal at any time if the winner or anyone associated with the winner is verbally or physically offensive or threatening. If the winner wishes to receive appraisal services from the bookseller for more than a day then that can be arranged but any extra services will be at the winner’s own expense. Five runners-up will also be selected and they will each win a year’s subscription to Rare Book Review magazine. Estimated value of appraisal is $1,300 GBP.
11. The winner will be selected on or around May 15, 2008 from among all eligible entries received on or before the contest closing date.
12. As soon as possible after the winner has been chosen, an attempt will be made to contact the winner via the e-mail address he/she provided on his/her Contest Entry Form. If a potential winner does not reply to the e-mail notice within five business days (ending May 23, 2008) he/she will be disqualified and another entrant will be chosen by the judges. AbeBooks Europe GmbH does not take responsibility for any online communication problems that may prohibit a potential winner from responding to the e-mail notice.
