THE RAREST FORMAT OF THIS SOUGHT AFTER SOFT COVER EDITION! Double signed and dated paperback first edition, with the first line of the novel written on the title page PLUS a full page ORIGINAL DRAWING on the inside cover!! Contains a suite of colour paintings in the middle of the book! A beautifully written and well deserved success, and an extremely attractive collectable. The revised version, 'Tunnels', published under a new imprint, means that these self published first editions must become extremely valuable because they are already so very RARE and can only become even more sought after. The plain fact of the matter is that this will never be reprinted. With a rumoured film deal in the offing, many are tipping this to be the new sensation in Young Adult books. The fact that it has been taken up by the man who discovered Harry Potter must bode very well indeed. Highly unusual to find the paperback with an original drawing, this increasingly rare first issue has become massively sought after. Signed by Author & Illustrator. Bookseller Inventory # 003956

WILL'S INVESTIGATIONS LEAD TO A DEADLY CONFLICT WITH THE SINISTER FORCES THAT HAVE ABDUCTED HIS FATHER, AND A DARK AND TYRANNICAL WORLD FROM WHICH HE MAY NEVER RETURN. ' This is a fantastic opportunity to acquire a remarkable book and one that is sure to be a SUPERB INVESTMENT. THE HIGHFIELD MOLE SERIES IS TO BE PUBLISHED BY SCHOLASTIC IN UK & USA AUTUMN 2007 AS "TUNNELS" The following explains the REMARQUE series and the reasoning behind the different quotes. It is taken from a private email to me from the author: Following on from our conversation about the inscriptions this evening, there are eight main ones, which I each used ten times in the copies. I have to confess that as I was doing some of the very last ones and fatigue was setting in, I think did get a little inscription-crazy with the final books and there are some one-offs, such as a full length limerick about Will Burrows, and an "in-joke" in a single copy. . You asked about the source of the inscriptions in the REMARQUE series: With some rough and ready explanations, they are: I dig . therefore I am! Variation on Descartes - "I think therefore I am". In what distant deeps. From the second stanza from William Blake's "The Tyger". Just as a footnote, we used the Deeps as a name for the lower layers beneath the Colony in the book. Also, my grandmother on my father's side was a Butts, and an ancestor, Thomas Butts, was arguably one of William Blake's most important patrons between approximately 1799 and 1810, and for a while the family owned over 200 of Blake's drawings and paintings from this very important period in his work. Unfortunately not one of these found its way to my grandmother. Infodio est vivo. This is from my rudimentary Latin and should translate as "To dig is to live." It may be completely wrong, or have a slightly different meaning from that intended, possibly "To dig in, is to live". Highly appropriate given the struggle Brian and I went through to get this book out! "What larks, Pip." From Dickens' Great Expectations, said by Joe Gargery to Pip. Probably the lightest inscription we used! We thought it conveyed the humour we tried to instil in the prose. "Dig for Victory" Government campaign slogan from around June 1943 during rationing when people were encouraged to "grow their own". I read that nearly 1.5 million people began allotments in an attempt to become self-sufficient. "I . prisoner of the soil." Think this was a translation from a line of German in a TS Eliot poem. Need to check. Could be from The Wasteland. "There's a world going on underground." Lyric from a song called Underground on Tom Waits' album Swordfishtrombones. "As above, so below." The Corpus Hermeticum of Hermes Trismegistus began with these words. It is an axiom employed by the Hermetists and the later Rosicruc. Signed by Author(s). Bookseller Inventory # 000745
