Steel engravings and tissue guards are present but for one plate at page 176 removed (Emigrants Crossing the Plains by F.O.C. Darley). There is some scattered smudging to the plates, especially the frontis plate. Binding crack at the contents page, which is loosely laid in. Pages 188 and 559 have tears, with some minor effect to the text. Page 427 is slightly pulled from the binding. Cover has heavy wear along the spine edges and corners.
