Ledney is a graphic designer, pin striper, illustrator and "monster maniac". His love of art started at a very young age when he began designing his own fonts based on techniques he learned by taking calligraphy classes. The 1970s proved to be an inspiration for Imperial's later interest in monsters and monster movies. "I was especially attracted to the packaging of toys, and movies in the 70s," recalls Paul. "There was a certain 'vibe' attached to that art that I couldn't find anywhere else." During what Paul calls his rebellious teen years, he used all that excess energy to design album covers and logos for local bands. At the same time he began working at a local screen-printing shop - which turned out to be convenient, because if you ask him today what he considers to be his specialties, screen-printing is at the top of the list, followed by pinstriping.
