A Guide to Archigram 1961-74 is a reprint of a dual-language (English-German) book on the history of the Archigram Group, which revolutionized architectural thinking in the 1960s. The group s members, Peter Cook, Ron Herron, Warren Chalk, Michael Webb, David Greene, and Dennis Crompton, proposed a manifesto for new urban building that focused on a hightech, futuristic approach employing modular technology. This book traces the development of the group's ideas until the architects split to form individual design groups in the 1970s.

Review:
"Flipping through the Guide nearly 40 years since Warren Chalk, Peter Cook, Dennis Crompton, David Greene, Ron Herron, and Michael Webb ceased the Archigram experiment, it's easy to see why their individual and group contributions have been so influential in recent years. Archigram's projects may not have gone beyond "paper architecture" (oh, but what great drawings they are!), but their promotion of true freedom and embrace of technological change make their work hard to resist all these decades later." -- Archidose.org
About the Author:
Dennis Crompton was a founding member of the Archigram Group. As a member of Archigram, he has kept the group's records from their earliest days and established the Archigram Archives in 1975 when they ceased to practice. He was responsible, with Ron Herron, for the assembly and design of the major exhibition, Archigram: Experimental Architecture 1961- 74, which opened in Vienna in 1994. Crompton designs exhibitions and books whenever the opportunity arises and has continued to guide the Archigram Exhibition around Europe, Asia, and North America. He has had a strong involvement with the Architectural Association School since 1965, and he was responsible for communications and publishing until 1996. More recently he is involved in teaching the masters courses in architecture and urban design at the Bartlett. Crompton frequently lectures at schools of architecture, urbanism, and design in the United States and Europe.
