It's a dirty job, but someone has to do it. Part of forensic psychiatrist Natalle Vine's job is to assess the risk of danger to the public from convicted criminals applying for release. In her opinion, rapist Colin Heggarty is a scheming, lying, unrepentant recidivist. With his weekend leave disallowed, Heggarty wants revenge and he plots it in the most harrowing and malicious style. Vine gets caught up in Heggarty's sick games while at the same time trying to salvage the wrecked life of her colleague, Vicky Jarret, who has plummeted from pop-psych breakfast TV darling to murder suspect in one bloody move. But is she a murderer or the victim of an insanely jealous stalker? In a world where real monsters lurk in prison cells and in the faceless world of the Web, Vine has to pick her way through a maze of depravity and uncooperative authority to find the answers to some deadly questions. At stake are a girl's life...not to mention Vine's own sanity.

From the Back Cover:
Criminally insane Colin Heggarty is behind bars, and thanks to Natalie Vine he's going to stay there. But when she thwarts him, he decides to take his revenge by arranging the abduction of one of his recovering victims. Natalie is given seven days to save her life and every day brings a grisly reminder that time is running out.

With no power to influence a man already in prison, Natalie realises that Heggarty's games are designed to humiliate and break her. She fears letting him inside her head - but is there a choice when an innocent life hangs in the balance?

Natalie's friend Vicky also needs her help - her lover is stabbed to death and she is the only suspect. Natalie suspects an obsessive fan may have been stalking her. She somehow has to find the strength to help her look in the places the police don't want to.

The one thing she doesn't realise is that one case will fatally influence the other.

About the Author:
