Review:
It's a wonderful thing that George Lowe's words and pictures have been brought together for posterity. --Giles Whittell, The Times Magazine
Lowe's writing has an unshowy immediacy to it ... an impressive achievement, and The Crossing of Antarctica is the most vivid way of reliving it, short of mounting a Trans-Antarctic expedition of your own. --Roger Cox, The Scotsman
A hundred years after Shackleton set out to traverse the great white continent, this beautifully produced volume celebrates those who succeeded where he failed. --Daily Telegraph
The fascinating pictures give an eye-opening look into life of the world's harshest climates. --dailymail.co.uk
A great impresario of modern-day polar publishing. --Times Literary Supplement
Outstanding photographs of the redoubtable George Lowe ... a fine memorial to a remarkable explorer ... Lowe's powerful portraits of his colleagues and rare images of private moments during the crossing also provide a fascinating insight into the personal side of exploration. --Geographical
Every so often ... a book breaks through the ice crust, and 'The Crossing of Antarctica' is one of these. This wonderful volume is a photographic record of the 1957-8 Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition ... the pictures have been reproduced excellently. --Literary Review
I, for one, am thankful that these stories and photos have been discovered and published ... if thoughts lurk in your mind of a life less ordinary, buy this book, read it, then see how far the rabbit hole goes. --Ernest Journal
Lowe's photographs offer a humanizing look at the since-deified explorers, depicting their beards of ice and feasts of tinned vegetables for Christmas dinner ... gives readers a visceral sense of just how raw and brutal the conditions were. --Fast Company
Glossy and weighty. --The Great Outdoors
