Bibliographic Details

Title: A new method of treating consumptions. ...

Publisher: A . Bettesworth and T. Warner, G. Strahan, and C. Rivington, London

Publication Date: 1727

Edition: First Edition

FIRST EDITION. 8 vo. Contemp. panelled calf, rebacked and recornered, the orig. lea. label preserved. xvi, 218, (6); 160, (4) pp. Title in red and black, woodcut head- and tailpieces and initials. A very good, crisp copy. In his preface, Dr. Nicholas Robinson (1697?-1775) sets out his approach: ".I have endeavour'd to account for all the Phaenomena's attending Consumptions, from the Laws of Attraction, Motion and Division: These are the Three grand Principles, on which the Several Springs of the Constitution turn, and to which all the Symptoms of Health and Diseases are referable." It would appear Robinson's approach took something from the "mathematical physick" of Archibald Pitcairn (1652-1713). N.L.M. (18th C.), p.384. Wellcome IV.541. Blocker Coll., p.340.
