With cooking times measured in miles rather than minutes, Manifold Destiny beat off stiff competition from a host of bizarre books showcasing the culinary delights of roadkill, insects, special effects, poison, and even cooking stark naked.
Sadly Manifold Destiny, published in 1989, is now out-of-print, but is still available on AbeBooks. The Roadkill Cookbook has spawned dozens of imitators and a mini-roadkill gift industry as well as selling more than 200,000 copies. The Eat-A-Bug Cookbook remains in print 18 years after it first appeared. The Special Effects Cookbook won a Gold Medal in an inventor’s contest. The Star Wars Cookbook was so popular that there was a follow-up – the Star Wars Cookbook II – Darth Malt and More Galactic Recipes.
