(Victoria, BC – 9 October 2007) Lake District hill-walking legend
Alfred Wainwright (1907-1991) is a bestselling author once again. The
revival of interest in Wainwright’s 40-plus books has been spurred
on by two biographical shows on BBC Four, Wainwright Walks and Wainwright:
The Man Who Loved the Lakes, as well as numerous newspaper and magazine
articles.
AbeBooks.co.uk - the world’s largest marketplace for secondhand,
new, rare and out-of-print books, began to see the Pictorial Guide
to the Lakeland Fells series appearing on its weekly and monthly
bestsellers lists in February. Sales of his books continued throughout
the year and Wainwright is set to be one of AbeBooks bestselling authors
of 2007.
The Pictorial Guide series, first published 1955-66, are the
most popular however they are not the only books in demand. Book collectors
have found particular interest in first edition copies of Wainwright’s
book Westmorland Heritage (1975) which have been selling for
prices in excess of £350. The book’s print run was limited
to 1000 copies and was hand signed by Wainwright. Currently the only
