As we turn 9 this month, we'd like to thank those booksellers who have been with us since our humble beginnings in 1996. Specializing in everything from philosophy to film, these sellers, with their love and knowledge of the book business, have made Abebooks what it is today.

We asked our Heritage Booksellers to tell us about one special book in their inventory.

-
Thank You Booksellers!

With each passing year, as millions of quality books are sold through our five websites, the Abebooks’ booksellers continue to impress buyers around the world with their expertise and professionalism.

The Abebooks team would like to thank all of our booksellers for their contributions, and for helping to solidify Abebooks' position as the world’s largest online marketplace for books.

The Story Shop (Elwood, IN)

Almark & Co (Thornhill, ON)
A Clockwork OrangeA Clockwork Orange

Anthony Burgess

"While fine First Editions of this book are in the US£5,000-10,000 range, even re-bound copies have commanded prices as high as £4,000. When I found a nice copy of the First without dust-wrapper, I spent three years in vain searching, to no avail, but instead of simply housing the copy in a bland leather binding with ribbed spine, I remembered the Penguin paperback cover design of the 1970s with a cartoon-like Peter Max-style depiction of Alex. I found a copy, scanned it, and made it a line drawing, sent it to my binder who created a metal stamp and then gilt-embossed an extra-fine grain black leather binding which, is truly, one-of-a-kind, because whoever buys this copy, also gets the metal die, preventing anybody else from duplicating the copy." £734.24

About Almark & Co: "I believe that after 25 years in this business the only thing that separates the professionals from the ‘weekenders’ or ‘amateurs’ is going that extra step. Tired of poorly-described books from anonymous sellers? Then choose professionals who, like me, aren’t content to rest on their reputations…we improve on them!"

Tavistock Books (Alameda, CA)
ALs to Thomas Noon TalfourdALs To Thomas Noon Talfourd
Urbain Jurgensen

"Today most Dickens' ALs' offered are comprised of but a line or two saying, in effect, 'Thanks, but I can't come to dinner.' This item a wonderful exception; it is long, personal, & compassionate, in which Dickens consoles his close friend Thomas Noon Talfourd, who was had recently been passed-by for the Solicitor Generalship. Dickens letters such as this, with a warmth & solicitious tone as here lovingly expressed, are infrequently offered these days. The item is handsomly framed with a engraving of Maclise's 'Nickleby' portrait of Dickens. Both the typical Charles Dickens signature, with flourish, and the initials C.D., are present." £5,231.44

About Tavistock Books: Tavistock Books, founded in 1989, is a firm that specializes in First Editions, Rare & Other Collectible Books with a Special Focus on Charles Dickens.
