BMV Books
Celebrating ten years in Toronto, BMV Books will
be launching its THIRD store in the heart of the city's
historic Annex neighborhood mid-September, at 471 Bloor
Street. This 15,000 square foot bookstore will be our flagship.
Current locations are 10 Edward Street (pictured; located
right beside the World's Biggest Bookstore, one block north
of Toronto's Eaton Centre) and 2289 Yonge Street (half
a block north of the Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue intersection).
BMV Books boosts a well-informed, helpful staff selling
a unique mix of review copies, current best-sellers, publisher's
overstock, remainders, second-hand books, rare books, collectible
magazines, comic books, plus even used DVDs and videocassettes,
all deeply discounted in price. The key to our success
is our incredible volume of turnover: we pay cash for quality
material, and most customers who visit our store on a weekly
basis still manage to find one or two new books to purchase
each time they visit!

The Strand Book Store
The Strand Bookstore in New York City was founded by Benjamin Bass in 1927.
The store was one of 48 bookstores located on a stretch of Fourth Avenue,
between Union Square and Astor Place, known as Book Row, which existed between
1890 and 1960. Strand is the only one of those stores remaining today. Fred
Bass, son of Benjamin, moved the store around the corner to its current location,
on 12th Street and Broadway in the late 1950s. Now co-owned by Fred and his
daughter, Nancy Bass, the store was recently renovated and features 35,000
square feet of space, enough to house the more than “18 miles of books” it
has under its roof. Famous Strand customers include Ben Affleck, Mikhail
Baryshnikov, Bono, Tom Cruise, Richard Gere, Ron Howard, Michael Jackson,
Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Vanessa Redgrave, Lou Reed, Salman Rushdie, Steven
Spielberg, Barbara Streisand, Cicely Tyson and Andy Warhol.

Madrid, Spain
Librería Miguel Miranda
The bookshop was founded by Miguel Miranda Vicente in 1949. At that time, it
was located on the Prado Street, next to the Athenian of Madrid. Don Miguel
relished alternating between the life of a bohemian bookseller, athenian,
and intellectual and his life as an actor in the Spanish Theater of Madrid.
Little by little, he became more captivated by the world of books until he
left the theater to devote himself entirely to his bookshop. Over time, the
shop became a social gathering place for academics, intellectuals, university
professors, and many others of diverse cultures and interests. The social
and intellectual life of the shop was almost as important to Miguel as the
books he was selling. He would later transfer to a location on Lope de Vega
Street.
In 1980, another shop was opened on San Pedro Street,
directed by Miguel's son and disciple, Miguel Miranda Miravet.
Since his father's death in 1997, the son has taken over
all aspects of the business, which he operates from the
location on Lope de Vega Street.

The Old Children's Bookshelf
The Old Children's Bookshelf on Edinburgh's Royal Mile is full of nostalgic
old books; treasures from everyone's childhood. There are beautiful old illustrated
books, a wide range of collectable story books, adventures, school stories,

comics, school readers, prints, postcards and posters.
As well as running the shop, we issue regular catalogues,
exhibit at PBFA bookfairs and, of course, sell on-line
at abe books. What started as a hobby 25 years ago has
grown into this flourishing specialist shop where I employ
two assistants (Kirstie and Frances, both former children's
librarians) to help with the day to day running of the
business.
