AbeBooks.co.uk: Arabian Nights - 1,001 Words Story Writing Competition

Penguin has worked their magic on The Arabian Nights and AbeBooks.co.uk has a very special competition prize for one lucky booklover. AbeBooks has teamed up with our friends at Penguin Classics, and we have one of the 3,000 special limited edition box-sets of The Arabian Nights: Tales of 1,001 Nights to give away.

Just released by Penguin, the three-volume set is a new translation by Malcolm and Ursula Lyons and has a recommended retail price of £125.

The Arabian Nights is one of the best known and most influential works of literature ever written. This translation is the first into English from Arabic since Richard Burton’s seminal translation in the 1880s. The box-set also includes new translations from 18th century French of the so-called ‘orphan stories’, for which no original Arabic text remains.

This beautiful quarter-bound, foil embossed set with bespoke slip case was designed by Penguin’s Coralie Bickford-Smith. Robert Irwin, author of Arabian Nights: A Companion, has edited and introduced the set. If you adore beautiful books and classic tales of adventure, love, riches, voyages, thieves and genies, then this box-set is for you.

To stand a chance of winning, simply write a story for us. It can be about anything – fiction or non-fiction – but must be exactly 1,001 words in length. Oh yeah… don’t be boring. Scheherazade kept herself alive with 1,001 entertaining tales and we’re looking for short stories that share the same adventurous spirit as The Arabian Nights. The most entertaining 1,001-word story will win and AbeBooks’ Richard Davies will judge the entries.
