Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. First Edition; stated second printing; 1957. O. Yardley died (at 69 yrs) the year after publication of this book; 1958- so the UK edition was published posthumously, in 1959. Bright green cloth w/navy endpapers past owner's name at the top rt. of the title. Secure binding no notes in the margins.129 pp. Herbert O. Yardley, whose training in, and mastery of, the subtleties of poker made him just the kind of agile thinker whom you would expect to crack the Japanese Diplomatic Code (he did) and to write the classic book on codes, ciphers and spies (The American Black Chamber)."Part poker strategy guide and part autobiography, The Education of a Poker Player: Including Where and How One Learns to Win was the first book that really got down to the nitty gritty and detailed the predatory relationship between professional poker players and amateurs, and explained how winning players actually beat the game. Yardley isn't a professional in the modern sense, he was more of a skilled player who recognizes an easily beatable game when he sees one. He's also a pretty interesting guy, having worked for the US government as a code breaker, and helped establish the US government's cryptology department after the first World War.".
