Book Description: Gale Ecco, Print Editions, United States, 2010. Paperback. Book Condition: New. 189 x 246 mm. Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****. The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. In its determination to preserve the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own: digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars.Western literary study flows out of eighteenth-century works by Alexander Pope, Daniel Defoe, Henry Fielding, Frances Burney, Denis Diderot, Johann Gottfried Herder, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and others. Experience the birth of the modern novel, or compare the development of language using dictionaries and grammar discourses. ++++The below data was compiled from various identification fields in the bibliographic record of this title. Book Description: Everyman's Library London, 1991. Hardcover. Book Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. These superb and elegantly designed books were relaunched in 1991, to great praise. A. S. Byatt said ‘They are so beautifully produced. They are a form of civilization’. John Updike wrote, ‘They are the edition of record’. They are, unsurprisingly, being collected, and the first printings especially. This is one of them. It has a unique introduction by A. J. Close. There is a fascinating chronology, a bibliography, and an elegant setting, as befits this masterwork. A silk marker is bound in and the dark green cloth binding has a black panel on the spine with the title in gilt. This copy has a mylar sleeved jacket, which is unclipped. A first edition thus, it does have some shelf wear signs - a slightly scruffy jacket, and a some dust marks on the edges of the text block, which is why it is marked down in price. But these are slight flaws, and otherwise this is an unread copy. Bookseller Inventory # ABE-7429782403
