First Edition
First edition, first printing. Original light blue cloth with black titles to upper board and spine, in dustwrapper. Illustrated with line drawings throughout by Eileen A. Soper. A very good copy, the binding firm with the usual bumping of the thin boards and mottling to the blue cloth. The contents, with a previous owner's name to the front endpaper and only the occasional foxing spot are otherwise clean throughout. Complete with the lightly rubbed dustwrapper that has a few tiny nicks at the spine tips and a single short closed tear (without loss) to the lower spine fold. The dustwrapper remains very clean and bright, albeit heavily faded to the red lettering on the spine, and entirely without repair or restoration. Not price-clipped (5/- net to the lower front flap). An attractive, unsophisticated example, scarce thus. The first edition, first printing of the first adventure of the Famous Five. (Summerfield, Tony: Enid Blyton, An Illustrated Bibliography, Part 1, p.58.) Further details and images for any of the items listed are available on request. Lucius Books welcomes direct contact with our customers.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. HARDBACK - A very good or better book with a tiny area of fading to the tip and tail of the spine. There is a little mottling to the front and rear boards, as is common with this title, but the blue boards are clean and fresh. Internally, the inner text is lightly toned due to the paper stock used in the books publication, but overall clean with just a couple of foxing spots to the page block. Free of any previous owner names or inscriptions. The dust wrapper is in very good condition with a chip to the tip of the spine, not affecting the lettering, also with a chip to the top centre of the front panel, with a slightly larger chip to the top corner of the front flap fold. There are closed tears, with associated light creases to the upper front and rear panels, with three small marks present to the rear panel. A very clean dust wrapper for its age with absolutely no restoration performed, with lovely colouring to the spine and to the front panel, also with a very clean rear panel. The dust wrapper has the wider flaps, denoting a correct first issue publication. The publishers printed price of 5/-net is present to the front flap.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. HARDBACK - A very good book, bound in the publisher's blue cloth boards with black lettering to the spine. There is some mottling to the front and rear boards, more so to the spine. A very common occurence with the early Hodder & Stoughton, Blyton titles. Internally, the pages are clean with a little toning to the page block. The inner pages are clean, with a contemporary owner inscription present to the verso of the illustrated end paper. The dust wrapper is also in very good condition, which has benefitted from some minor restoration to the spine tips, also to the corners of the front and rear flap folds. The restoration is light, but of the highest quality, by one of the UK's leading paper archivists. The end result is a dust wrapper that is very clean in appearance with no chips or tears present. The publisher's printed price of 6/- net is present to the front flap. Both the book and dust wrapper are the correct UK first edition, first impression with the requisite smaller front and rear flaps, published by Hodder & Stoughton in 1944. By far the scarcest of the Famous Five titles to obtain.
