Undated, the paper measures 11x7 cm and Georgiana has written: 'Mr Phipps Esq Carter Street' on the recto with 'Georgiana D[uche]ss Devonshire' probably in a slightly later hand on the verso. Georgiana used Phipps as her eye doctor and there are several extant letters between them in the Waller Collection at Warwickshire County Record Office. Contemporary purple morocco gilt, marbled endpapers; (marginal light foxing; binding lightly rubbed). Inscribed by Elizabeth, Duchess of Devonshire on front free endpaper to possibly Lord Opulsdon, although his name is not traced. Early booklabel of Chillingham Castle of Northumberland England to front pastedown. Inscribed copy of the Horatian Satryrarum by Elizabeth, Duchess of Devonshire. Elizabeth Cavendish, widow of William, 5th duke of Devonshire, according to Brunet, financed the production of this book. There were two editions (both with engraved plates and dated 1816), the first limited to 150 copies (of which 60 were distributed by the Duchess to friends and the surplus destroyed) and the second edition limited to 200 copies. The Italian translation for both editions is attributed to Molajoni. A third, quarto, edition was published by Bodoni in Parma in 1818 with a new translation by Cardinal Ercole Consalvi (1754-1824).
