Octavo, russet cloth (hardcover), full-color illus. paper pastedown, full-color illus. endpapers, illus. title, 242 pp. Very Good, with light edgewear. From story: It was the autumn of his second year. The pale-blue smoke of the wild asters was beginning to fade. The hardwoods' brilliant livery of crimson and gold was changing to a dingy tan. The air held a nip of frost even at midday, and the nights were loud with the hoarse bellowing of rutting moose. For days now a queer feeling of unrest had gripped Ruddy. He did not understand it; his hunting was lacking in that particular satisfaction he had always felt at the finish of a successful adventure. Coupled with it was a deep desire to roam into a strange land. He fought against it for a while, but finally one night, when a lopsided moon came up over the spiky tops of the pines and flooded the wild and lonely landscape with its ghostly glow, the wanderlust took active shape. Without plan or direction, he wandered off. He hunted only when hungry and slept only when very tired. The waking hourse were mostly devoted to the exercise of those faculties which would one day make him famious. Keen of brain and eye, with an infallible nose, and a body already far beyond his kind in size and power, he drifted slowly south. Children's Literature, Juvenile Fiction, Animal Stories, Illustrated. bb/lh.
