Detailreiche Monographie (Text in deutscher und in japanischer Sprache) über die Geschichte des Konpon daito des Koyasan bis zur (bei Drucklegung des Buches unmittelbar bevorstehenden) Einweihung des Neubaues dieses durch einen Brand zerstörten Heiligtums, der "Grundlegenden Großpagode", die nach der Lehre des Shingon-Buddhismus den Mittelpunkt eines ganz Japan umfassenden Mandala bildet. Der Koyasan ist eine Tempelanlage in einer Gruppe von Bergen in der Präfektur Wakayama südlich von Osaka und wurde von dem buddhistischen Mönch Kukai (Kobo Daishi) 816 begründet. 1927 habilitierte sich Trautz in Berlin in Japanologie. 1930 bis 1938 lebte er in Japan auf, zuletzt als deutscher Leiter des Japanisch-Deutschen Forschungsinstituts in Kyoto. Aus dem Vorwort von Professor Ono Gemmyo Hakase: "Der deutsche Professor Dr. F. M. Trautz arbeitet seit vielen Jahren auf dem Gebiete unserer alten Kulturgeschichte und hat ganz besonders dem Stupa in Japan seit geraumer Zeit seine Forschungen gewidmet. Herr Kono Seiko Gakushi hatte schon 1928 besonders über den Konpon daito gearbeitet. [ ] Die beiden Herren haben seitdem mit vereinten Kräften in der Literatur wie vor allem an den Denkmälern selbst ihre Forschungen fortgesetzt, die sich vom ältesten Mandara im Seiryuji und vom südindischen Eisen-Stupa des Ryumyo bis auf den neuen, eben jetzt im Bau befindlichen Konpon-daito erstreckten."
