Shows the spine lightly rubbed and tanned, several outer margins of the fold-out plates slightly thumbed and furrowed, otherwise the binding is strong and tight, the text and plates are clean and unmarked, and the boards remain bright and distinct. As pictured.

Tight and VG+ in its bevelled dark-green cloth, with crisp, completely unflecked gilt-titling and insignia along the spine. Light foxing at the pastedowns and endsheets, faint staining to the front inner hinge (and continuing very lightly thru the preliminaries). 15 fold-out plates (all intact and very clean, except the frontispiece plate, the left half of which has been neatly excised) and 77 additional plates thruout the text. Thick 64mo, 450 pgs. plus Lippincott's list of recent publications ("McClellan's Bayonet Exercises", etc.) at the rear. This copy bears the ownership blindstamp of William Buell Sprague (1795-1876) of Albany, NY, noted Congregational and Presbyterian clergyman and compiler of the 9 volume set "Annals of the American Pulpit".
