Hardcover. Condition: VG+. No Jacket. Photos, Cartoon, Chart (illustrator). 1st. Sir Francis Henry Dillon Bell (1851-1936) was an eminant NZ statesman, Prime Minsiter and respected lawyer. He entered Parliament in 1893 for a short time and was also Mayor of Wellington, leader of the then Legislative Council, held many important Cabinet posts from 1912 and became caretaker Prime Minister for a brief time in 1925, the first New Zealand born person to hold that position. He played an influential role in the developing an independent NZ, particularly during WWI. His biographer was a contemporay politician. A beautifully produced book, this copy being No 167 of a limited "De Luxe Edition" --- total number of copies not stated. 322 pages, two appendices and index, frontis photo, six other b/w photos, cartoon, geneology chart. Red hard covers with dark red half leather spine strip with gilt spine titles VG+ with tiny mark lower front edge, right of centre, very small area wear top front spine hinge. Ink name, date top FFEP, text block otherwise excellent with very occasional foxing, light foxing to page edges as closed.
